About Oregano

Oregano is a beloved herb known for its sweet-smelling, aromatic foliage, making it a staple in kitchens around the world. This versatile herb can be used fresh or dried, offering a robust flavor that enhances a wide variety of dishes. In particular, oregano is essential for flavoring classic Mediterranean recipes, including moussaka, stews, and sausages. Its aromatic profile adds depth to omelettes, stuffings, pizzas, and all kinds of Italian dishes, making it a go-to ingredient for chefs and home cooks alike.

In addition to its culinary uses, oregano boasts a rich history in traditional medicine and is celebrated for its potential health benefits. It is known for its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, which can contribute to overall wellness. This makes oregano not only a flavorful addition to meals but also a herb that supports a healthy lifestyle.

During the summer and autumn months, oregano produces beautiful flowers that can also be harvested for flavoring. These delicate flowers, once gently dried, can be added to various dishes to impart a subtle sweetness and enhance the overall presentation. Whether used as a garnish or incorporated into recipes, oregano flowers add a lovely touch to culinary creations.

With its aromatic leaves and versatile applications, oregano is a must-have herb for anyone looking to elevate their cooking. Whether you are crafting a traditional Italian pasta sauce or a hearty stew, the delightful flavor of oregano will enrich your dishes, inviting a taste of the Mediterranean into your home. Embrace the versatility of oregano and discover the endless possibilities it brings to your kitchen.

Oregano is a very tasty herb to add to dishes like risotto but personally I always add less than the recipe suggests as it has quite a powerful flavour.

Oregano adds a fantastic flavour to our home made pizzas - it makes the cheese more digestible for me as well.

Spinach Buckwheat Pancakes Recipe

Summary: Our Spinach Buckwheat Pancakes are a really fun way to add greens to your diet or to kids' diet, as you will not taste the spinach at all ! Feel free to use fresh herbs instead of dried herbs in the pancake batter if you have them. Buckwheat is not a grain / cereal, and even though it has 'wheat' in its name, buckwheat is in no way related to wheat. It is actually a seed (sometimes referred to as a 'pseudo-grain', just like fellow nutrition heroes quinoa and amaranth). So in addition to being nutritious and naturally gluten free, it is a great food to add to your diet if you are trying to add variety or reduce the amount of gluten that you eat. The vibrant green pancakes would make a great addition to a brunch spread. Serve them with vegan yoghurt and fresh parsley or toppings of your choice, sweet (omit the garlic and the herbs from the batter) or savoury.
