Raw Vegan Spicy Orange and Maca Energy Bliss Balls Recipe

Little balls of goodness made from processing nuts or seeds with dried fruits and chosen superfoods and flavourings. The variations are endless. Maca, also known as Peruvian Ginseng, is a known adaptogen and is commonly used to help balance endocrine function and to increase energy and stamina. Maca has a pleasant malt-like taste, making it easy to add to your favourite foods. These Raw Vegan Spicy Orange and Maca Energy Bliss Balls are a great way to include maca in your diet : they are made from a mixture of dates and cashew nuts, orange juice and zest, maca powder and ground cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and clove. Equally enjoyed by adults and children, they make a great mid-afternoon or post-workout snack. Makes about 12 bliss balls.

Method

  • Place your pitted dates (do check for stones), along with the dried pineapple, cashews, maca powder, orange juice and zest, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg in your food processor and process until well combined and sticky, adding a little extra orange juice if needed.
  • Using your hands, form around 16 round truffles.
  • If you wish, roll your bliss balls in maca powder, or shelled hemp seeds, or in desiccated coconut. And if you can bear to wait, chill them for half an hour before serving.
  • The maca bliss balls will keep well in the fridge for over a week.
